" Tennis coach Greg Royle, local player Doyle Springett, Dave Allen from the Wollongong Tennis Courts Administration and Louise Barnaba from Tennis NSW check out the new facilities at Corrimal Tennis Centre.
CORRIMAL Tennis Centre has undergone an amazing revitalisation in recent weeks.
Once neglected, the five tennis courts have come alive, with everyone from elite athletes to social players to school children stepping up for a hit.
The dramatic change is the result of a recently completed $180,000 refurbishment of the aging facilities.
Three years in the making, the upgrade saw the inferior concrete courts resurfaced with synthetic grass and additional lighting and security fencing installed.
The courts have never looked better and tennis enthusiasts couldn't be happier.
"This was a community asset that was begging to be refurbished," said Dave Allen, secretary of the Wollongong Tennis Courts Administration.
"The dilapidated state of the facilities in the past meant that no one really wanted to play here.
"But now we're running coaching clinics and regular tournaments, and attracting players from right across the state."
Wollongong City Council, the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation and local tennis associations all contributed funds for the ambitious refurbishment.
The new facilities will be put to the ultimate test next month, with Corrimal Tennis Centre set to host a Talent Search Day, organised by Tennis Australia.
One of only three events taking place in NSW, the day will give young tennis players a chance to strut their stuff in front of renowned tennis scouts and coaches.
