MOVES to transform Towradgi Park into one of the city's premier recreation sites are now well underway, with Wollongong City Council awarding a tender for installation of picnic and barbeque facilities.

Councillors earlier this week agreed to award CBC Constructions Pty Ltd a tender to construct and install three stainless steel picnic shelters and two barbecue facilities, identified as a number one priority in the Towradgi Park Master Plan.

Endorsed in June 2006, the Master Plan was developed through extensive community consultation and outlines 11 areas for potential improvement including extra shade, seating, picnic areas, caf?, viewing platforms and public art.

The shelters will be built using an innovative electroplated stainless steel material called Moonglow' to ensure they withstand the coastal conditions at Towradgi Park.
