ROUND eight of South Coast AFL saw the Northern Districts Tigers take on the team from HMAS Albatross at Nowra, the Demons.

Albatross and Norths last met in the season opener, where the Tigers won by more than 100 points.

This match would prove a vital mid-season result for both sides, the Tigers trying to take top spot on the ladder, while Albatross were fighting for a spot in the top four.

The first quarter saw the Demons take an early lead, kicking the first two goals with some great running play through the centre.

Northern Districts remained composed and had the lead by quarter time.

The second and third quarters were closely matched, but Norths were able to retain more possession, and extend their lead by a small margin at each break.

Returning from three-quarter time, though, it was obvious the Norths had the fresher legs, despite missing six players through injury.

The final quarter sealed a decisive victory for the Tigers, kicking seven unanswered goals.

Best performing forwards for the Tigers were Trent Avery and Shawn Murray, kicking three goals each.

The difference in the game was the Tigers' work in the middle, with best on ground going to captain Mark Edis, closely followed by returning player Ben De Bruin, and Matt Warth. Northern Districts (20-15-135) defeated Albatross Demons (6-3-39).

The league takes a bye this weekend, with Tigers returning to the field on Saturday June 16, against Camden, at Hollymount Park in Alice St, Woonona.
