GETTING cosy with stingrays, sharks and octopuses doesn't appeal to everyone, but according the University of Wollongong Scuba Club member Tom Gill, the Illawarra is a 'brilliant' place to live for those who hear the call of underwater life.
As the water warms up Mr Gill and the rest of the club are looking to recruit new members and raise the profile of the group.
“It's just a group of enthusiastic divers and lots of people who want to get out there and it would be nice to increase numbers and have stronger central group that we can do that with,” he said.
Mr Gill said the club organises dives on most weekends.
“One of the best things about the university dive club is we've got our own boats,” he said.
“There are a lot of boat ramps around the area and we can take about eight divers in and it takes makes it a lot safer than going in off the shore.”
He also said the club is very inclusive of divers of a range of abilities, from beginners through to experienced.
Anyone can join the club as long as they are accredited, which the club can help organise.
