The Illawarra Greens have backflipped on their previous position concerning the democratic need for a new Wollongong City Council to be elected later this year.
Illawarra Greens Convener Jill Merrin told the Wollongong and Northern Leader that she now thinks the new administrators should be given a chance to fix things at Council.
The sentiment is also finding support among local businesspeople.
Illawarra Business Chamber President Les Dion said he doesn’t think 18 months would be long enough to get council back on track.
The new administrators, Colin Gellatley, Robert McGregor and Gabrielle Kibble, who have all worked for many years in high-ranking government positions, spoke to the media during their first day on the job last week.
They said they were committed to bringing Wollongong City Council up to standard.

This is a great sign from the Greens, Systemic corruption takes decades to develop and become entrenched and it was very naive to think it could all be cleanded up in 6 months in time for the September 2008 elections. Commonsense backflip by the Greens
