BALGOWNIE scored a thrilling eight-run win over Corrimal in round 13 of Illawarra cricket.
All matches had been reduced to one-day affairs after the scheduled first day was abandoned the week before due to heavy rain.
At Judy Masters Oval, Bally batted first but could only manage 94.
The main destroyers were Corrimal duo Dean Merola (4/34) and Rob Fisher (4/40).
The hosts then fought back to post 94. That total turned out to be enough, just, after Corrimal folded for 86.
Steve Jones was the hero for Bally, snaring 5/37, including the wicket of Corrimal’s top-scorer, Graeme Batty (35).
Mark Johnson bagged 4/28 for Balgownie to complete the stirring win.
Meanwhile, University maintained are still on top after a 72-run win over Dapto at University Oval.
Batting first, the Students posted 136.
Dapto had to answer with the bat as they were dismissed for just 64.
Stinson ran through Dapto’s middle order on his way to 5/19.
Helensburgh maintained second place with a three-wicket win over Wollongong at Helensburgh Oval.
Northern Districts (7/181) produced the weekend’s highest score on their way to a 20-run win over Keira at Keira Oval.
Wests scored a ten-wicket win over Port Kembla to complete the round.
