Shamrock duo secure NSW PSSA jerseys

Shamrocks junior rugby’s Rory Davis and Dane Woods, who will represent NSW PSSA.

SHAMROCKS Junior Rugby Club stars Rory Davis and Dane Woods have been selected in the NSW PSSA rugby team.

The duo will help NSW defend their National Championships title at Parramatta from September 21 to 23.

They will face teams from Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

The pair was selected on the strength of their performances for South Coast at the recent state championships in Armidale.

Before the national titles they will have to play three trials against Sydney-based sides.

Rory, from Woonona East Public School, is the youngest-ever player to pull on the famous green Shamrocks jersey while Dane, from Stanwell Park Public School, started his rugby career in 2005.

Both boys play for Shamrocks and Illawarra in the under 12s – they will tour New Zealand with the representative team in 2008.

Despite starting rugby at different ages, Rory and Dane have played together in a number of representative sporting teams.

For the past two years Rory and Dane have represented South Coast PSSA in union, league and Australian Rules.

This year they also secured places in the South Coast PSSA touch football team, playing in the state championships at Cabramatta during the week.

However, their attention will soon turn to rugby, where Rory is a halfback and Dane a fullback.

Although Rory’s favourite sport is rugby, he will turn out for the Northern Districts Tigers in this weekend’s Wollongong District AFL grand finals.

Dane, who loves league and union, was a member of the Berkeley under 12s that lost in the recent Illawarra Junior Rugby League decider.

Rory nominated former Wallabies skipper George Gregan as his favourite player.

Dane said New Zealand Warriors winger Manu Vatuvei was his favourite player.
