School on a five-year roll

WOONONA High’s lawn bowlers have achieved a school first by winning their Wednesday inter-school sport title for the fifth successive year.
The team competed in the Wednesday grade sport competition through terms two and three of the 2007 school year.
The relatively young team was guided by super coach Kevin Walker, who has been dedicated to the job for many years.
The teacher who usually manages the team, Kevin Bannerman, took long service leave this year and Peter Cowan stepped into the breech.
Although Cowan didn’t know a lot about lawn bowls, his inexperience with the game was countered by enthusiasm.
The Woonona team lost only once during the season, to Bulli and were held to a draw by their grand final opponents, Keira.
It was a strange feeling for Woonona as they had faced Bulli in the past four competition finals.
However, the result was the same as Woonona’s side easily accounted for the young but enthusiastic Keira outfit. The team would like to thank the greenkeepers, staff and members at Woonona Bowling Club for their support and grand final lunch.
They would also like to thank Kevin Walker for his coaching and guidance both during the competition and the off-season. Last but not least, the team would like to thank Peter Cowan for taking the reigns, while Cowna would like to thank the team, especially James and Samantha Berriman for their advice and guidance during the year.
