Wollongong streets and foreshore will echo to the sounds of hundreds of runners on Sunday, March 28 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Kembla Joggers Fitness Five Fun Run and Walk.
The Fitness Five, sponsored by the Illawarra Credit Union, is the biggest and oldest fun run in the Illawarra, takes in some of the finest scenery in the region, following a 5km course from the IPAC down Crown Street, along Marine Parade, around Flagstaff Point and up Cliff Road before turning at North Wollongong Surf Club and proceeding back along the foreshore cycleway to finish back at the IPAC.
The race has previously been won by numerous state, national and Olympic representatives, but the main focus for the organising committee is to provide a safe and achievable event for most active people in the community.
Over the past few years an average of 580 competitiors have taken part each year.
Both male and female race records have stood since 2005.
The male record is held by Youcef Abdi (14.21); the women’s record is held by the late, great Kerryn McCann (15.49).
Entries for this year’s event are being taken up until Wednesday, March 24 via post or online.
Go to www.f5.kemblajoggers.org.au to enter online, download an entry form or further information.
You can enter on the day between 7am and 8am as an individual but no team entries will be accepted on the morning. Race numbers can also be collected at the registration area in the new Civic Plaza precinct next to the IPAC centre in Burelli Street between 7am and 8am.
The race will start at 8.30am.
There are plenty of category and random barrel prizes to be won from Rebel Sport, K-Swiss, Savvy Fitness and local businesses.
