ORGANISERS of a public meeting this Sunday to discuss a controversial residential and aged care development for Sandon Point have labeled the proposal a "greedy grab" for land.
Northern Illawarra Residents Action Group (NIRAG) have organised a public meeting in response to the latest development proposal for Sandon Point and South Thirroul.
Stockland and Anglican Retirement Village plan 535 dwellings and a 120-bed aged care facility for the site. NIRAG say the proposal extends to almost twice the size of the development levels recommended by a Commission of Inquiry.
"This proposal is a cynical and greedy grab for the maximum development, and ignores the government's own in-depth inquiry process," NIRAG Secretary Alex Peterson said.
The Sandon Point development will add another 2,000 people to the 5,000 population of the Thirroul area he said. The meeting will take place at Thomas Gibson Park (near the cricket pitch) on Sunday July 30 from 11am, which, under the plans, will be partially given over to an access road and more development.
