Swashbuckling kindergarteners from Austinmer Public School Rory Douglas-Montague, Chloe Smith, Ethan Vezgoff, Louie Donovan and Jett Jones with Chief Pirate/Principal Paul Petersen on International Talk Like a Pirate Day, which took place last week.
WITH the ocean a just stone's throw away, the children of Austinmer Public School had no problems imagining themselves as rough, tough, sea-bound pirates for International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Last Wednesday children at the school put away their usual pleasant looks and good manners and broke out with intimidating scowls, and gruff growls.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day is participated in purely for the fun of it, but Austinmer Public student's learned about more than just what a pirate's favourite letter is (Aaaar!) last week.
Pirate themed examples were worked into different lessons on the day, to give the children a better understanding of certain concepts.
School Principal Paul Petersen, who was sporting a large pirate hat, and carrying a curved plastic sword said on the day that it was a 'marvellous' way to enjoy something silly with the children.
