OVER 1000 students and more than 4000 proud family members and friends gathered at the University of Wollongong last week for the acclaimed institution’s mid-year graduations.

Six ceremonies were held, with graduation gowns and mortar boards bringing a touch of tradition to an academic milestone.

Since 1600 a graduate’s hood colour has denoted her or his university and degree.

The University of Wollongong has chosen royal blue gowns for all its graduates.

Guest speakers at last week’s ceremonies included the Commonwealth Treasury official Frank Di Giorgio, Thales Australia Vice-President of Technology Research and Development, Dr John Best, and Bulli High School principal, Bruce Sandler.

Since its foundation, the University of Wollongong has awarded over 75,000 degrees and diplomas.
