WOLLONGONG Kart Racing Club kicks off its 2007 season this Sunday 11th Feb at Wollongong City raceway, Kembla Grange. Wollongong Kart racing club currently has 150 members and is one of the strongest kart racing clubs in the state, with many members traveling from out of the area to compete at the Wollongong meets.
Go-Karting is an important feeding ground into all other forms of motor sport, with most of the current V8 Supercar drivers started their racing careers in karting.
As well as the Wollongong rounds of the Go Kart season many Illawarra karters will be competing at both state and national level.
Classes are determined by type of engine and the combined weight of the driver and Go-kart. The junior's classes are determined on age with kids being able to start Karting at 7 years old.
Spectators are more than welcome to come along and watch the racing and entry to the track is free. Entry is via West Dapto Road and racing commences at around 9:30 am and goes for most of the day. The pit area is open so people can wander around and talk to the various competitors about go karting.
