Thieves at Work
Wollongongs warm weather is seeing many of our residents attending our local beaches and park areas. Police are reminding the community not to leave valuables on the beach or in vehicles unattended. You can reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of theft by parking smarter. Thieves in the Wollongong area are targeting cash from consoles, mobile phones, sunglasses, wallets and handbags. Police are advising persons to avoid parking in dimly lit or isolated areas and remove valuables when you leave the vehicle. Lock doors and windows and dont hide any spare keys inside or under your car, thieves know where to look. Chief Inspector Joe Mura said,"security is important and by following these tips this type of crime can be reduced. Contact your local Police immediately to report any suspicious activity in or around car parks."
Australia Day
Police will be out this Australia Day targeting anti social behaviour and traffic offences. Police are asking the community to be responsible in their consumption of alcohol and plan how you intend getting home. Police will be attending licensed premises to ensure the licensing regulations are being adhered to. Sgt Brett Roeder said,"recently a number of infringements have been issued to people who have allowed their drivers licences to be used by another person to gain entry into a club or hotel. These persons have been issued with a $575 on the spot fine.
