YOUNG northern Illawarra sporting achievers were acknowledged at the second annual Northern Leader WB Sports Supplies Junior Sportsperson of the Year presentation at Thirroul Bowling, Leagues and Recreation Club on Wednesday night.
As the Leader went to press on Wednesday, the judges had decided on the top five place getters. The junior sportsperson of the year for 2005 is Elyse Yardley, 18, of Mt Ousley (kayaking/surfing). Robert Hurley, 17, of Mt Ousley (swimming) was judged second, 16-year-old Lexy Gilmour of Helensburgh (athletics) third, 18-year-old Rhett Russell of Wombarra (kayaking/surfing) fourth and 16-year-old Erin Wright of Corrimal (trampoline/tumbling) fifth.
