Thirroul IMB branch manager Jason Welsh, chairman Russell Fredericks, Wollongong Hawk Glen Saville and IMB CEO Wayne Morris celebrate the grand opening of the new Thirroul IMB branch in Anita's Theatre.

ONE of Thirroul's longest serving business residents has made the move to a new and improved home.

The IMB officially opened its branch in the historic Anita's Theatre complex last Thursday.

The new modern banking facility aims to provide improved services to residents and strengthen the financial institution's 25-year history in Thirroul.

"With this complex being constructed, we thought it was an ideal opportunity to invest in the future of Thirroul," IMB chief executive Wayne Morris said.

"We see the northern suburbs as being one of the most exciting parts of Wollongong, particularly with the combination of long-tem residents and new people coming to the area."

The new branch has been open for business since June 13, following the closure of the previous location at the front of Thirroul Plaza.

Thursday's grand opening gave IMB staff the chance to celebrate, with Wollongong basketball star Glen Saville cutting the ribbon.

Residents also joined in the fun, which included balloons and face painting for kids and a barbecue.

The celebrations coincided with the opening of two other IMB branches at Penrith and Tuggeranong in the ACT.

"It has been an exciting few weeks," Mr Morris said.

"This is a combination of a recommitment to the Illawarra region and expansion into other regions."
