CONSULTANTS working on the heritage assessment of the Illawarra escarpment met with residents of Stanwell Tops this week to inspect walks, lookouts and stoneworks built by noted developer Harry Halloran during the 1930s.
Wollongong City Council have invited contributions to the heritage assessment of the escarpment through a series of drop-in' information sessions during September.
The study seeks to build on a preliminary study of the escarpment's historical places and heritage conducted during 2003.
Six key objectives are sought as a result of the assessment, including the preparation of a brief thematic history of the escarpment, analysis of known heritage sites and the filling in' of any gaps existing in knowledge of the area's history.
The three drop in' sessions are open to residents where consultants are asking people to share information, photos and documents about significant places and events.
This will take place at the Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre on September 16 from 9.30 to 11.30am.
