EXTRA carriages will be added to a peak hour Sydney to Illawarra rail service after ongoing complaints of overcrowding.
CityRail has increased the capacity of the 4.41pm Central to Kiama service from four to six carriages.
Member for Illawarra David Campbell said the train would operate as a six carriage train, providing an addition 200 seats for passengers travelling to the Illawarra and South Coast.
" I have been listening to the concerns raised by passengers since the new timetable was introduced and acknowledged that this train has been at or close to capacity on leaving Central most afternoons.
However, Mr Campbell said the additional two carriages may not be always available due to maintenance constraints.
The introduction of the new outer suburban carriages (OSCARS) later this year should relieve those constraints he said.
The Illawarra line would be the first to receive the new OSCARS, freeing up permanent carriages for the afternoon Central to Kiama service.
