A CREW of 40 swimmers donned their boardshorts and floaties this month to support Balgownie resident and 2005 Surf Life Saver of the Year Craig Zulian.

Craig is fighting leukaemia and to help pay the mounting bills while he undergoes treatment, friends organised an ocean pool crawl to raise funds for his family and the Leukaemia Foundation.

The swarm of swimmers completed two laps of seven northern suburbs pools from Coalcliff to Woonona on November 12, raising over $22,000 in the process.

"It was great fun and there were no complaints about water temperature," organiser Phil Murray said.

Craig and his family took a well-earned break to join the ocean pool odyssey, offering a big thank you to all who supported the event.

"It was an unbelievable day," Craig said. "After a couple of months in hospital and going through chemotherapy, a day like that just lifts you up."
