Former Wolves players? living in the Illawarra display the A League trophy in Crown Street Mall recently. Back: Alvin Ceccoli (Fairy Meadow), Justin Pasfield (Albion Park). Front: Jacob Timpano (Towradgi) , Sasho Petrovski (Figtree) and Ruben Zadkovich (Bulli).
THE inaugural national A-League eight - team soccer competition proved to be a resounding success with the exception of the Auckland KnightsFC a club that attracted poor crowds and took the wooden spoon by a country mile.
Adelaide was the most consistent team and won the minor premiership clearly from Sydney FC. The other two semi-final spots were filled by Newcastle and the Central Coast to make it three from four for NSW clubs.
As a result of the play-offs, the grand final was won 1 0 by Sydney against Central Coast in front of a packed house of 41,689 fans at Aussie Stadium in a high quality entertaining match that could have gone either way.
An amazing nine former Wollongong Wolves players were involved in the match - Ceccoli, Petrovski, Timpano, Zadkovich, Middleby and Pasfield (Sydney) and Spencer, Heffernan and Giraldi (Central Coast).
Of these Timpano, Zadkovich, Pasfield, Spencer and Giraldi were Illawarra products and Heffernan spent some time with the Bulli club from Sutherland.
