ILLAWARRA-based Liberal Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells has announced that students and staff at six Catholic Schools will benefit from a Howard Government grant of $265,000 under the Investing in Our Schools Program.

Senator Fierravanti-Wells said the grant would be used for various capital infrastructure projects at St Columbkille’s in Corrimal, St John Vianney’s in Fairy Meadow, St Joseph’s in Bulli, Corpus Christi Catholic High School in Oak Flats, St Paul’s in Albion Park and Stella Maris School in Shellharbour.

“The Investing in Our Schools Program is a valuable initiative which will deliver much needed funds to less well-off Catholic/Independent schools in the Illawarra,” she said.

“The Howard Government recognises the importance of providing schools with facilities that will enhance the education and well-being of students.

“The Investing in Our Schools Program builds on the $1.5 billion already allocated by the Howard Government for school capital works over the four years 2005-2008.”

Senator Fierravanti-Wells said these projects involved a significant amount of funding, which demonstrated the Howard Government’s continued commitment to a strong and effective school system.

“During 2005-2008, the Program will provide an additional $300 million in capital funding to Catholic/Independent schools,” she said.

“This money was promised during the 2004 Federal election campaign, as well as $54 million of additional funding over 2007-2008 announced in February 2007.”
