Cringila Lions, coming off a last round bye, recorded a good 3-1 victory over Picton Rangers in Friday nights game at Crehan Park.
In a very entertaining game Cringila had to wait until the very last minute before the points were safe in this Round 11 opening game.
The game had plenty of action throughout and the Lions should have been two in front inside the first 30mins. In that period Tony Dulevski missed a penalty when his shot hit the post and a few minutes later the post saved the Rangers again with another strike rebounding to safety.
After this Picton could have had two goals of their own if not for the heroics Crini’s goal keeper Adam Kumcevski, who made two outstanding saves from shots bound for the top corner of his net.
Three minutes from half time, Cringila did get on the scoreboard with Frank ‘Junior’ Barilla getting his first top grade goal for the club which gave us a half time scoreline of 1-0 to the home side.
In an end to end second half, half time substitute Steve Taneski gave Crini a bit of breathing space when he scored to put Crini up 2-0.
Eight minutes from time, Premier League leading goal scorer, Andrew Borg, made sure the game would go down to the wire when he netted to get the Rangers back in the game. Duleski made up for his first half miss when he secured the points for Cringila after scoring in the 93rd minute. My informant tells me that Cringila deserved their victory on the night. 3-1 the final score and the win has seen the Lions move into the top four for at least 24 hours.
On Saturday and Albion Park White Eagles regained top spot on the table after a resounding 4-1 victory against a lack lustre Tarrawanna side.
The game was as good as over at half time with the home side cruising into a 3-0 lead and then coasting through the second period. Jordan Lando returned to the scoring sheet in style with a fine hat-trick with the other goal being scored by Andre Gacesa. Arvi Lehtsalu scored a consolation for the visitors.
Bulli and Fernhill both had their chances to snatch victory at Balls Paddock with the two teams playing a scoreless draw.
Matthew Keep had a goal ruled out for off-side for the previous League Leaders before David Buchanan had the chance to claim a precious 3 points for the home side when Bulli were awarded a penalty in the last minute. Sadly, he saw his shot strike the woodwork and rebound to safety with both clubs having to settle for a single point.
Dandaloo had a comfortable win at home against Coniston with Christian Cevinini bagging a double and Chris Jackson the other in a 3-1 victory.
The Lions battled on gamely after having Pece Sobevski sent off in the 52nd minute with Dandaloo holding a onr goal lead. They were rewarded with Ile Kostovski scored a consolation in the dying stages.
Ben Gatwood and Mark Picciolini were the goal scorers (1 in each half) as Port Kembla had a 2-0 win against a vastly improved Warilla Wanderers side.
On Sunday all the goal scoring action was in the second half, as South Coast United scored a clinical 4-1 win against Wollongong United.
In what became a ‘goal-a-thon’ of set pieces. Greg Valic, Michael Santalab, Ricky Bertakis and Denis Jurjevic scored the goals for South Coast with Chris Jankulovski getting Wollongong’s reply.
