Langlands lands surf Open

Shaun ‘Langa’ Langlands had to carve his way through some pretty stiff competition to take out Southbridge Boardrider’s November Open.
A quick decision, by the organisers, to change the venue for the November pointscore from Warilla to ‘The Farm’ nearly didn’t pay off. But when the swell picked up and the wind went off-shore at the turn of the tide, the move was vindicated and some stand-out performances were enjoyed by the appreciative crowd.
Matt Smith performed some big moves in the early rounds and was unlucky to miss a spot in the final.
The judges were impressed with the power and aggression of Leigh Carey but it was Langlands’ tactical superiority and consistency that prevailed at the pointy end of the day.
In second place was ‘Beach Street Surfer of The Month’ Josh Szele, who, with a win in October, finds himself with a sizable lead in Southbridge’s ‘09 open competition.
Southbridge’s Christmas pointscore will be held at George St. on Sunday, December 14 and all money raised on the day will be donated to the Anglicare Christmas Appeal.
