WOLLONGONG kneeboarders excelled in the five foot surf at Woollamia on Phillip Island recently.
In what can only be described as very difficult conditions over the final day of competition, the cream of Australian kneeboarding rose to the top, with Wollongong resident ripper and Parkes team rider, Cheyne Simpson beating the best in the land to take out the open title, along the pro junior division.

Simpson defeated three-time World Champion Simon Farmer (Shellharbour) in the final of the open division.
Farmer also had to settle for second place in the masters section to cap a successful weekend.
Cheyne’s trademark big moves in the waves earned him the nod over Simon.
In what was a very close final all surfers proved worthy of the title, with the floaters in the shore breaks usually ending on dry sand.
Another Wollongong local and Parkes team rider Albert Munoz, finished fourth, pushing his claim to an open title in the near future.
Albert also was second in the senior men’s and hones his skill with the local Waka Kneelo club.
Other wakas to excel were the Warilla wonder, Russell Smith, who finished fourth in the over 50s.
