COLEDALE'S dual Commonwealth Games marathon gold medallist, Kerryn McCann, will be presented with local government's highest honour this Sunday.
Kerryn will be handed the Key to the City', by Lord mayor Alex Darling in recognition of her outstanding Games victory.
Cr Darling is urging as many people as possible to turn out to the mall amphitheatre at 11am on Sunday to acknowledge the performance of Kerryn and other Illawarra Games participants.
"Australian athletes performed in an outstanding way in Melbourne and our city and the wider region are particularly proud of the way our people represented the country and the Illawarra," the Lord Mayor said.
"With such achievements there is an expectation the community will be able to show their collective appreciation, so we're hoping for a big crowd to give our champions a fitting welcome home," Cr Darling said.
Meanwhile Wollongong councillors on Monday decided to name the northern cycleway between Thirroul and Wollongong Kerryn's regular training route - after the gold medallist.
