THE SUCCESSFUL Country Rugby League (CRL) Juniors Grant Programs are back for 2007, with junior player of the week and junior club of the month awards on offer. “Every Sunday for 20 weeks, from 12 May to 23 September, AAMI will be recognising the exceptional contributions of a CRL junior player with a $250 sporting equipment voucher and giving their club a chance to win $2,000,” said Selina O’Connor, AAMI NSW Corporate Affairs Manager. The Junior Player of the Week program will follow the same format as 2006, where junior players are entered on-line at www.countryrugbyleague.com.au. A selection of players’ stories will be read out on 2GB during Ray Hadley’s Continuous Call program on Saturdays, with winners announced on Sundays. In 2006 players from many assorted CRL Groups won prizes, so this year it must be the Illawarra’s chance to shine. Also returning in the Junior Club of the Month award, with funds used to train and manage young teams. Illawarra’s Dapto club was a recipient in 2006, so one of the other Illawarra clubs should put their hand up in 2007. “Country Rugby League clubs and players benefited from the additional funds provided last year. Clubs used the grants for a range of initiatives,” CRL’s Terry Quinn said.
