WOLLONGONG JUNIOR AFL

MURRAY BERGMEIER

IT WAS a quiet weekend for the Northern Districts Tigers Junior AFL teams with some sides having the bye.

Those Tigers' teams that did get on the paddock produced some impressive results.

It was a big one for Jessie Mulholland in the under 15s, leading her team out against the Kangaroos.

Jessie has years of playing experience and is a big contributor in the forward pocket position.

Her marking ability under pressure is a real advantage to the Tigers.

The 15's had a slow start but warmed up in the second quarter to take out the game by 66 points.

Jack O'Donoghue had another strong game, as did with Alex Bennet from the centre.

The under 12s played the Red Roos and went down by a startling 29-72 after failing to counter the offensive power of the Kangaroos.

The 10s reversed the ratio and took out this division 47/37 against the Kiama Power.

Under 16's local derby between the Illawarra Storm and the Northern Tigers was a strongly-contested game with the Storm too strong right across the park.

New player Verity Burnett played her second game for the Tigers in their defeat.

Originally a representative Queensland hockey player and State level Cross- Country runner, Verity's contributions came from the forward pocket area.

The unbeaten Storm has dominated the Sydney league this year and remains at the top of the ladder.

In seniors news, both the Tigers South Coast AFL outfits suffered defeats against competition leaders Bomaderry

In first grade the Tigers went down 17-13-115 to 9-9-63.

The Tigers' second grade fared no better, sustaining a 12-15-87 to 4-6-30 loss against the competition leaders.
