AUSTINMER artist Christine Hill has always loved the coast, so much so that she has spent most of her life capturing it on canvas.
And for the next two weeks, visitors are free to not only view her many works, but also learn from the artist herself with a series of workshops, which she said are booking up fast.
“I think this exhibition will appeal to artists and beginners,” Ms Hill said.
As a member of the Australian Society of Marine Artists, Ms Hill said she is interested in depicting a range of nautical inspired scenes.
“The artwork I’ll be showing will of course include lots of scenes of the local area as well as other subjects that have caught my attention,” she said.
Ms Hill said she was invited to be an artist in residence at the Australian Telescope Facility in Narrabri earlier this year.
“I just made a visual diary of the big sky country with these impressive satellites that were constantly moving,” she said.
“I refused to take a photograph of these satellites and just captured them as best I could while they were moving.”
Ms Hill said she would also be showing off her latest painting in the Tom Thumb series that captures the story of Matthew Flinders and George Bass looking for Port Hacking.
All of the works – with the exception of the Tom Thumb painting – will be available for purchase.
“I will also have lots of unframed works – mostly on paper – for people to look at,” she said.
There will be opportunities to watch demonstrations and on Sunday, September 28 and Thursday, October 2, Ms Hill will run a three hour ‘Yupo’ water colour workshop.
“It would be rather interesting for anyone who has used watercolour or would like to, because we will be using a special paper made by ‘Yupo’ which gives a very different and contemporary look to the finished artwork,” she said.
Anyone interested in attending a workshop should call Ms Hill on 4267 2549.
The exhibition is on now at Vision & Space Studio Gallery in Austinmer until Monday, October 6.
