ILLAWARRA rider Gina Cleaver has completed an enjoyable year by taking out the 2 Wheel Moto Mayhem Iron Woman Series round victory and wrapping up third place overall in the Australian Supermoto Championship in women’s class at the Calder Park Thunder Dome in Melbourne.
Competing in the Iron Woman Series, where she contested the Supermoto, Moto X and Mini X events, Cleaver was able to record victory in the Mini X class and finish second and third respectively in the Supermoto and Moto X events.
What capped off her year was aching a podium result overall in the Australian Supermoto Championship for the women’s class, and she secured that by placing third in the sixth and final round of the Australian Championship riding her # 47 Hogs Breath Cafe/Yamaha Australia supported Yamaha YZF 250cc.
“To take out the Iron Woman Series is a wonderful achievement as I finished second in the same event earlier this year, so it was good to go one better,” Cleaver said.
“In all three of my events I managed to remain consistent and that was enough to give me the win, but it was certainly a busy day, because as soon as I would finish one race I would be off to the next race, so it was good to be rewarded with victory after such a full on day of racing.”
Finishing in third of the women’s class in the Australian Supermoto Championship was the goal Cleaver had set out for herself at the beginning of this year, and she was rapt to achieve her aim.
“I had set out all year to be inside the top three for the women’s class in the Australian Championship and it’s great to achieve it, as I have worked really hard on improving and working my way towards the leading riders such as Rebecca [Bateman] and Rachael [Eagle],” she said.
“Riding a Yamaha YZF 250cc up against all the 450s didn’t make life easy throughout the year, but I hung in there, but for next year I’m looking to step up to a 450cc capacity bike and see how I perform.”
