“After such a strong start to the first attempt at the main event, I was feeling confident at the restart,” said Jay.
“I got off the mark fairly well in the restart coming into the first corner with Daniel Reardon and Cheyne Boyd. The three of us were banging bars, and Reardon and I came down, with Boydy charging ahead.
By the time we remounted and worked our way through lapped riders, Boydy was close to lapping us, thankfully he didn’t and it was a huge challenge just to get back up with the front runners.
“I was hoping to zone in on Boydy to claim second from him in the Championship, but I struggled with the muddy conditions and couldn’t find traction to make up ground quick enough.
With Jay's gloves full of mud and slipping off the bars, he ended up taking one glove off making it very difficult to make many passes.
“I eventually finished in 8th position for the night which sealed a 3rd place positioning for Motorex KTM in the overall Pro Open title, so I’m pleased to at least have remained in the top three," he said.
The top three Pro Open positions for the night were Cheyne Boyd in first, Daniel Reardon in second and Shane Metcalfe in third. The top three in the Pro Open Australian Championship were Daniel Reardon in first, Cheyne Boyd in second and Jay Marmont in third.
Ryan and Jay Marmont will now commence testing for the start of the Australian outdoor Motocross Championship, taking to the natural terrain of ten different tracks throughout Australia.
The opening round starts at Broadford in Victoria on April 15, and Motorex KTM Race Team Manager Ross McWatters, says the team will be aiming high.
“In muddy conditions like the Supercross final over the weekend, Jay and Ryan know only to well what mother nature can provide in the great outdoors. They both put in a commendable effort to finish as well as they did and that will also be our aim for the Motocross Championship," said McWatters.
“The motocross takes place on outdoor tracks in natural terrain so the conditions will vary at each round, and given that it runs through winter we can be sure to have a few more mud baths along the way.
“Ryan will be going for his second consecutive motocross title and he certainly has the skill to win. Jay is making a return to motocross after not having raced in the Australian Motocross Championship for two years.
“Jay put in a good testing run at Moto Mayhem at Oran Park last month, where he beat top contender Daryl Hurley in the motocross races, so we know he will be up there and expect him to make a big impact in the long motos ahead.”
With only three weeks to the opening round for the motocross, Motorex KTM will be testing with Ryan on the KTM 250 SX-F and Jay on the 450 SX-F to ensure the bikes and riders are fine tuned and set up ready for battle come Broadfor for what should be a great series.
