HOST state NSW impressed at the Australian under 18 Indoor Hockey Championships at Unanderra’s Illawarra Credit Union Stadium on the weekend.
The NSW girls won their national championship with a 2-nil win over Victoria in the final while the NSW boys side went down 5-4 against the Vics in their final.
Mardi Watts (6 mins) and Kirsten Pearce (23 mins) scored the NSW goals in the girl’s decider.
Meanwhile, the boys were leading 4-nil after 20 minutes after a Jeremy Huk hat-trick and an additional goal to Josh Walters. That sparked a furious Victoria comeback, with the visitors scoring in the 27th, 28th, 33rd, 39th and 40th minutes to seal a big come-from-behind win.
The girls booked their spot in the final with a 3-nil win over Queensland in the semi-final.
Pearce, Kate Nealon and Emily Wong all scored for NSW.
The NSW boys scored a hard-fought 3-2 win over Western Australia in their semi.
Meanwhile, the NSW girls dominated the preliminary rounds, winning all five of their games and scoring 34 goals to one.
They opened their campaign with a 8-nil win over Victoria, followed by big wins over South Australia (9-nil), the ACT (3-nil), Queensland (4-1) and WA (10-nil).
The boys also impressed in their preliminary series.
They won all five of their games while racking up a goal difference of 34 scored and 15 conceded.
