Jay Marmont is looking for a big result at his home race this weekend.
HIGH speed Supercross action comes to Dapto Showground this Saturday night March 24, for the final round of the Australian Supercross Championship where local rider Ryan Marmont will be aiming to claim his second consecutive Pro Lite title for racing team Motorex KTM.
Ryan Marmont and his faithful KTM 250 SX-F have been a force to be reckoned with all season, as the 21 year old has put in the most consistent results to lead the Pro Lite Championship by nine points over his nearest rival Daniel McCoy.
A nine point lead can mean Ryan doesn’t have to finish on the podium and he canstill claim the Pro Lite title, yet the reigning champion knows only to well hecan’t let down his guard as the title can be anyone’s until the chequered flagdrops.
At the final of the Australian Supercross Championship at Wollongong last year, Ryan Marmont was well behind Cameron Taylor in points, for the Pro Lite title.
The championship was ready to be handed to Taylor yet Marmont went on to win his two finals, while Taylor struggled in the back of the field, losing the title to Marmont by only one point.
After working this hard to get where he has Ryan Marmont says he isn’t going to be over confident in saying the title is in the bag, instead he plans to train hard right up to the eleventh hour, putting in every bit of effort necessary to retain his Pro Lite Championship status.
“I know I can finish sixth place or better and the Pro Lite title will remain with Motorex KTM but I will be aiming to win,” said Ryan.
“It’s a 15 lap final so I need to ride smart, avoid get offs and watch my positioning.
“Last year Cameron Taylor had the Pro Lite Championship in the bag with an eight point lead over me but my winning results combined with his mistakes saw me take the championship win by one point. “Knowing this, I need to ensure I beat Daniel McCoy who sits nine points behind me, or finish at least sixth in the final to win the Pro Lite Championship.
“My usual training regime has been interrupted by a lot of rain around Wollongong this week, so we have been traveling around trying to find some dry tracks.
“I’m keeping up with my gym training and cardio to ensure my fitness is there and I have the bike experience so combining the two should get me my second title. It’s rewarding to win in front of your home town fans. I not only want to win for Motorex KTM but for all the Wollongong fans who come out to watch and support the sport of Supercross racing.”
While Ryan focuses on winning the Pro Lite class, his older brother Jay Marmont will be hoping to take home his first Pro Open class win for the season, after returning from a two year stint in the USA.
Jay Marmont has finished on the podium at the previous two rounds but is yet to peak to his usual performance and take the win, something he is anxious to do in front of his home town fans.
“I haven’t lost an Australian Supercross Championship in Wollongong yet and I’m not about to do it now,” said Jay.
“The backing of your home town really helps with race nerves which I have been experiencing since returning from injury this year. It’s amazing after racing for so many years that time off with injury can put you off a little, but I have improved at each round and I’m hoping I’ll peak at Wollongong.
“I’m sitting third in the Pro Open Championship behind Daniel Reardon, who leads and Cheyne Boyd who sits in second.
"I’m at least hoping to claim second from Cheyne Boyd but I’d need Reardon to finish well behind to claim the Pro Open win."
Tickets to the Australian Supercross Championship finale can be pre purchased through Dapto Showground on 02 4261 1080 or on the day at the gate.
Get along for a great night.
