Gymnasts Chelsea Murray, Jessy Hansen, Seryn Littleton, Remy Crick (Coledale), Carna Feldtmann (Woonona), Rachael Montgomery (Woonona) and their coach Alison Bowhay are heading to the Shaky Isles.

SIX of Wollongong's young gymnasts, including three from the northern suburbs, are heading off to Nelson, New Zealand the weekend after next to contest their first International Invitational Artistic Gymnastics competition.

Held annually, this event is called the "Top of the South" competition.

The girls train daily at the Wollongong City Gymnastics Club and are diligently practicing the new skills required for their difficult routines.

The girls range from 11 to 14 years of age and their coach, Alison Bowhay from Thirroul has been working hard with these talented and disciplined athletes.

The girls will be competing in all of the apparatus', which include the balance beam, vault, uneven bars and floor routine.
