GAELIC Football will make its debut in the Illawarra at a tournament in March.

The University of Wollongong Fighting Leprechauns will host a ten-a-side summer blitz tournament in conjunction with the NSWGAA (New South Wales Gaelic Athletic Association).

That tournament will be all the more historic given a Fighting Leprechauns women’s team will make their debut at the event.

The summer blitz format promises an even faster version of the “all round game,” University of Leprechauns president Lee Murray said.

Organised Gaelic Football didn’t come to the Illawarra until the Leprechauns entered the state league in 2007.

“This tournament will prove to be a great opportunity for the region to see and support their local team at home,” Murray said.

“It is also a chance for all to experience the athleticism and free running involved in this non-stop game.”

The tournament will start at the University Ovals on Northfields Ave at 10am on Sunday, March 9.
