MANCHESTER act Delphic draw their musical inspiration from numerous musical fields – most notably electronica, pop and rock.
However, guitarist/programmer Matt Cocksedge said it was difficult to grasp where the majority of their rapidly-growing following was located.
“It’s hard to tell where the people who like the record come from,” he pondered. “We’ve been able to play dance clubs just as readily as rock festivals so in that way it’s crossing over. But we listen to all sorts of music, so I imagine a lot of people out there do too.”
He would appear to be correct – the band’s debut album Acolyte has been selling strongly, as well as garnering considerable press adulation. Not that Cocksedge seemed fazed.
“To be honest we haven’t really spent too much time checking the reactions,” he said. “We’ve been trying to get to work on the new record. The last one was written a while ago and took some time to get right, so once it was recorded, we moved on in our heads to translating it to the live show. Then it’s just been thinking about a second album that pushes things further.
“It’s always great to see people responding to songs when we play live, but to be surprised you have to have some sort of expectations. We just think about making music as great as we can...the same goes for the gigs.”
However, he was noticeably more excited at the prospect of the band’s upcoming Australian tour. “Hopefully we’ll see some familiar faces and some new ones. We want people moving when we’re playing.”
