THIRROUL traders have combined to show their national pride by flying over 260 flags throughout the shopping centre.
The Arcadia Centre, Beaches Hotel, Soul Pattisons Chemist and Anita's Theatre have joined forces in the flag flying exercise.
Developer of Anita's Theatre John Comelli said the show of national pride was prompted by NSW Premier Morris Iemma's call for Australians to fly the flag on Australia Day.
"If the premier is calling on schools and residents to fly the flag on Australia Day, I think we as business people should also fly the flag," Mr Comelli said.
"It helps install national pride in us all and helps unite us as a nation," he said.
Meanwhile Mr Comelli will lodge new plans for the site once earmarked for a police station.
Mr Comelli's rethink comes after the State Government's decision to scrap a Thirroul police station and instead revamp Corrimal Police Station.
The residential component planned for the rear of Anita's Theatre will be replaced with a commercial development, while a chemist shop will be relocated towards the rear of the former theatre.
