Fired up by station funding

AFTER struggling with limited space issues that see the resident fire truck scraping into its housing with just inches to spare, Scarborough NSWFB fire station has finally been given a financial boost.
For the past 37 years a cramped building has been the site of fortnightly fire drills, piling 10 to 12 firemen into a four by six metre room.
Scarborough NSWFB Acting Captain Les Choice said conditions at the station had been cramped for a long time.
"We haven't got much room around the fire truck " it just fits in by inches," Mr Choice said.
"And all the men have to fit into this small room for the drills."
The station has received $475,000 from the State Government to improve the fire crew's working conditions.
The funding comes as part of the government's $831.5 million emergency services budget.
The current NSWFB at Scarborough has a collective 230 years of fire-fighting experience.
