CORRIMAL Cougars Rugby League Club are on a desperate search for players to boost their ranks ahead of the new Carlton Illawarra Rugby League season.

President Brian Smith said while their first grade side had a fairly solid base of players, the club are in desperate need of more numbers to boost their reserve grade and Under-18s.

“The players just aren’t there at the moment and we are particularly concerned about the situation with our Under-18s as these young blokes are the future first graders,” he said.

“With the majority of our top grade in their late 20s, it won’t be long before we will be looking to the younger ones to step up.”

With their first trial planned for this Saturday, February 27, against Gerringong at Ziems Park, Mr Smith said now was the time to get numbers so final decisions could be made on their immediate future.

“If players have been tied up with other sports or just haven’t decided if they’re going to play, we need to know now and the trial, with Under-18s starting at 2pm and grade at 3pm, will give them the chance to let us know,” Mr Smith said.

The weekend will be busy for the Cougars as Sunday will be their season launch and 1974 premiership reunion at their Leagues Club.

Premiership-winning captain Oscar Danielson will be there, along with other members of the team, together with famous Cougars Craig Young, John Jansen and Ben Hornby. For more details contact Brian Smith on 0419 489 993.
