Corrimal claim cricket crown

IT may not have been a great start to the rugby league season by the Corrimal Cougars but their first grade cricket team celebrated long into the night after they defeated neighbours Balgownie in the final of the Illawarra Cricket Competition on the weekend.

Batting first, Corrimal compiled a more than handy 261 with opener Rob Fisher top scorer with 68.

Balgownie all rounder Rob Andonovski then set about tracking down that total contributing a superb unbeaten 116 - but it was all to no avail with his team falling 23 runs short.

There were many stars for the victors but Anthony Guido deserves special mention with his fine all round display after rushing back and forward competing with Tarrawanna in soccer on the very same weekend.

funny how the world has parallels. I am another Rob Fisher and I led my team to victory the 'Harcourt Lions Cricket Club' in the Castlemaine District Cricket Association (VIC). In our final we made 358 & I top scored with 117no. We then bowled out Maldon for 108. Go the Fisher's!!
