Free trees
WOLLONGONG Central is handing out 1000 native trees tomorrow as part of its Ways to Save Expo. The centre is hosting educational activities, including how to build a chicken coop, as part of the expo which runs until Sunday (August 2). The trees will be available outside Sportsgirl in the Crown Street Mall at 10am.

Bus driver sought
THE Illawarra Ethnic Communities Council delivers a variety of ethnic-specific programs to older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The council urgently needs volunteer bus drivers with LR licences to drive the community bus. Please call Gordana on 4229 7566.

RSL funding
THE Thirroul and Corrimal RSL sub-branches will share in $3628 of Commonwealth funding under the Saluting Their Service program. Federal Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird, said Thirroul would receive $2695 to restore the Bofors Gun at Woodwood Park and attach a plaque outlining the history of the gun while Corrimal would use $933 to restore the Corrimal Honour Roll at Anzac Grove.

Lions hunt
THE Austinmer/Thirroul Lions Club is trying to track down former members leading up to its 50th anniversary celebrations on September 12 at the Thirroul Bowling Leagues and Recreation Club. Ruff night
MERRIGONG Theatre Company is hosting Ruff! New Works in Progress at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre on Saturday and August 8. The initiative allows the public to watch new works under development and provide feedback to the composer, co-writers and actors. Performances start at 8.15pm.

Quilters unite
THE Thirroul Neighbourhood Quilters meets each Wednesday in the Red Cedar Room of the Thirroul District Community Centre and Library from 9.30am to 2pm. Newcomers are welcome. Inquiries phone 4267 2500 or 4267 4686.

Trivia fundraiser
RAISE the Gong is holding a trivia night for women’s cancer awareness on August 14 at the City Diggers Auditorium in Wollongong. The event starts at 7pm and there are loads of prizes and games. Art exhibition
Illawarra Branch of Adults Surviving Child Abuse is hosting its Purple Ribbon art exhibition at the Old Court House in Wollongong, corner Cliff Road and Harbour Street, from 10am to 4pm on August 1-2.
