Cheerleaders power in titles

On June 19 cheerleaders from the Woonona Bulli RSL Youth Club took to the competition floor at the Downunder Spirit Championships.
These championships are an international competition which the best cheerleading teams from around Australia and also teams from the USA and New Zealand compete.
The team from the Youth Club, named Woonona Power, competed in both the pom and cheer events with great success.
In the Cheer section the team competed in the Level 2 Open Division.
The team performed two strong routines to come away with second place, only three points shy of the winning team from New Zealand. The team was praised for having good strong technique in their stunts, jumps and tumbling and effective choreography.
In the Pom section the team competed in the Open division, the biggest and toughest section of the entire competition.
The team pulled of an energetic routine to come away with equal third place. This placing was especially momentus as the team from Woonona beat teams who were former winners of the event.
They team was also ecstatic to find out that we were only five points behind the first place team.
The team from Woonona finished off the weekend by attending a skills workshop held by international coaches, where they learnt some great new stunts.
The team is now working hard to prepare for their next round of competitions which include both the state and national championships.
Anyone interested in starting cheerleading, the Woonona Bulli RSL Youth Club offers four different classes.
Junior Cheer are on Saturday 1.45pm - 3.45pm,
Junior POM Thursday 4.30pm - 5.30pm.
Open Cheer Saturday 3.30pm - 6.30pm,
Open POM Tuesdays 7.00pm - 8.00pm.
