Capital gains for Balgownie Junior Soccer’s under 14s

BALGOWNIE Junior Soccer Club’s under 14s first team played in the Lightning Tournament in Canberra earlier this month.
The Balgownie side defeated Majura, STFA Strikers and Belnorth before they lost to Woden under 15s.
Balgownie won their way through to the grand final after winning group two on for and against.
They met two-time Kanga Cup winners, Canberra FC’s under 15s who have won their local competition for the past three seasons.
Balgownie had a player sent off after ten minutes and went to the break down 1-nil.
The Balgownie side dominated the second half and hit the bar twice, but Canberra FC held on to take the honours.
The Lightning Tournament was a well-run annual competition, with over 80 teams playing in 2008.
That wasn’t Balgownie’s first visit to the nation’s capital this year – in late March they played in a pre-season challenge cup in Canberra.
Balgownie played the grand final against the Woden under 14s.
In the decider Balgownie played some entertaining football and defended with grit.
A spectacular goal from out wide by Andrew Neaves allowed Bally to win the cup.
During the same tournament Balgownie drew with Majura, defeated Goulburn twice and scored another 1-nil win over Woden.
The team included: Jake Potter and Allister Carrigan, Nick Allen, Jeremy Allen, Chris Behan, Aaron Tremolada, Jessie Bragg, Gadir Maarbani, Daniel Saverino, Hayden Mowbray, Cem Ozer, Andrew Neaves, Jacob Fryday, Jake Brewes, Brice Mardon, Slav Najdovski, Brandon Lewis and Jordan Nash. Kevin Chilby was coach and Dave Allen manager.
