THIRROUL surfer Parrish Byrne continues to impress, finishing third at the Billabong Pro Junior Wollongong event at Bulli Beach on Sunday.

The event was the ninth of eleven events that comprise the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Australasian Pro Junior Series for Under 20s surfers.

Byrne performed exceptionally in the early rounds, and in the first semi-final bundled out Merewether’s Jesse Adam to secure a finals berth.

In what proved to be a fierce battle, Queensland’s Julian Wilson took an early lead in the 25–minute final, snaring a pair of 6.5’s to leave his foes needing high scores for victory.

Wilson then put the result beyond doubt, unleashing a series of vertical manoeuvres to net a heat high 9.5 and a 7.15 for victory.

Byrne’s high finish was impressive given the high calibre of opposition on the day.

The final scores were Stuart Wilson 16.65, Kennedy 14.25, Byrne 12.70 and Brett Burcher 9.00.

The high finish leaves Byrne in sixth position in the overall rankings for the 2007 season on 9,923 points, with two events remaining.
