A CONTINUING supply of Bulli Soil has been found for the Sydney Cricket Ground's turf wickets.
Wollongong Golf Club has sold 7000 tonnes of the rare topsoil to the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust to be used on the pitch for the Ashes Test against England in January and the one-day internationals this summer.
The rare and rapidly diminishing supply of Bulli Soil was first mined from an area now covered with housing at Bellambi Point over a century ago.
The soil - used on famed grounds such as Lords in England was discovered during excavation to redevelop the Wollongong Golf Course. Golf Club general manager Kevin Fagg said the sale of the soil would help pay for the $1 million revamp of the historic Wollongong course.
