BRILLIANT sunshine and warm Spring temperatures attracted record crowds to the 53rd annual Bulli Agricultural Show at Slacky Flat on the weekend.
Over 10,000 people passed through the gates during the two day event an increase of 3,000 on last year, Bulli Show Society publicity officer Jeff Rosen said.
"The gate takings on Saturday alone doubled last year's Show," Mr Rosen said.
Community feedback had been positive and the 50 volunteers from the Society and the Woonona Lions Club had made the Show one of the most successful in living memory he said.
Five girls contested the popular Fernwood Showgirl Quest, with Lisa Cooney of Keiraville taking the honours.
Lisa will now go onto the zone finals and is in the running to contend the prestigious Sydney Royal Showgirl Quest next year.
RTA employees demand right to build Northern Distributor
ABOUT 90 Roads and Traffic Authority employees walked off the job last Friday, protesting a decision to contract out work for the extension of the Northern Distributor.
Workers formed a blockade at the Bellambi and Albion Park RTA depots and continued with industrial action on Monday.
They have vowed to keep protesting until they are granted a meeting with RTA chief executive officer Les Wielinga.
Employees from the Bellambi road services unit have demanded to be involved in the $80 million Distributor extension from Bellambi Lane to Molloy Street at Bulli.
However, an RTA policy stipulates that the unit cannot undertake work projects over $20 million.
Union representatives met with NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal two weeks ago in an attempt to settle the
dispute.
Australian Workers Union assistant branch secretary Wayne Phillips said regional RTA employees wanted to construct the section of road from Bellambi Lane to Park Road.
"That's the bare minimum that we will except," he said.
"There's no reason why RTA workers should not build an RTA road."
