THIS is the preferred option for the intersection of Bulli Pass and Lawrence Hargrave Drive.

The plans to remedy the dangerous and busy intersection have been placed on public exhibition for public comment until the end of December.

The Roads and Traffic Authority proposal consists of a new, single northbound lane from George Ave that runs to the west of the existing Princes Highway, before spanning Woodlands Ck and Bulli Pass on a new bridge that would provide a seamless connection with Lawrence Hargrave Drive.

Revealing the preferred option earlier this week, Minister for the Illawarra David Campbell said the overpass would improve safety and traffic flow at the foot of Bulli Pass.

"The proposal would address the safety and travel efficiency concerns that have been identified at the intersection," Mr Campbell said.

"The upgrade would remove the existing right turn lane from the highway north into Lawrence Hargrave Drive.

"It's a simple, cost effective solution that would allow integration with any future extension of the Northern Distributor," he said.

Heathcote MP Paul McLeay said the $49 million investment in the Sea Cliff Bridge has provided a massive boost to the Illawarra's northern suburbs and the Bulli Pass upgrade builds on that significant infrastructure.

"The Bulli Pass intersection is one of the key projects residents in my electorate have identified and the Iemma Government is getting on with the job of delivering this upgrade," he said.

"I encourage residents to look at the plans ands provide any feedback on the proposal."

The plans will be on display for comment until Friday December 22 at Oasis Coffee Lounge in Thirroul Plaza, Body Dynamics in Bulli shopping centre, the RTA office in Corrimal Park Mall and the RTA Southern Regional Office in Crown St Wollongong.

Representatives from the RTA will be available to answer questions about the proposal at Thirroul Plaza on Saturday December 2 and 9 from 9am to 3pm. Further details are available on the RTA's website: www.rta.nsw.gov.au
