Preview Round 6

Premier League: Cringila Lions v Coniston Lions at Crehan Park between two old rivals with no love lost between them, could be a possible draw or an odd goal-winner for either of them.

Warilla Wanderers v Bulli at King Mickey Park one has to favour the visitors checking out their formidable squad of to players while Warilla has to lift themselves over and above expectations.

Picton Rangers v Dandaloo at Hume Oval between two top-end aimed sides not an easy prediction perhaps the visitors slightly preferred to secure the points. Tarrawanna v South Coast United at Tarrawanna Oval seems to be both are evenly matched with the form on the day the deciding factor.

Port Kembla v Dapto at Wetherall Park will be a real challenge for Port's coach John Fleming facing Dapto's Stuart Beedie, both experienced hands of their trade. Wollongong United v Kiama at Macedonia Park a must win for both struggling sides looking for a successful day and first points, could go either way wlith the host expected to come out on top only just.

First Division with a double-header " Woonona v University at Ocean Park, Balgownie Rangers v Shellharbour City at Judy Masters Oval, Helensburgh Thistle v Corrimal Rangers at Rex Jackson Oval, Bellambi v Highlands United at Elizabeth Park, Ruse v West Illawarra at Jackson Park, Fernhill v Wollongong Olympic at Ray Robinson Field, Berkeley have the BYE. On Sunday the draw is University v Ruse, Shellharbour City v Woonona Corrimal Rangers v Balgownie Rangers, Bellambi v Helensburgh Thistle, Berkeley v Fernhill (battle royal), Highlands United v Wollongong Olympic, West Illawarra have the BYE.

Competition in First Division is fierce and no real outstanding performers are dominating at this stage as run-away All teams are aiming for a good placing on the table.

Overall scores so far do indicate that teams are evenly matched hoping to move up instead of down.

It is important for promotion since the IFA is looking to streamline both competitions with eventual 12 teams in Premier League in about two years, needing to restructure First Division at that point.

Actually only the First Division league champion has a real chance to be promoted providing the criteria is met.

While two last placed sides in Premier League face the drop.

The Illawarra Stingrays playing in the Sydney State league competition are away on Sunday 22/4/07 to Macarthur at Lynwood Park with all sides " U/12's kick off 9 AM, U/14's at 10 AM, U/16's at 11.30 AM, Reserves at 1.30 PM, First Grade at 3 PM.

NSW Junior Sides

Come together for the annual Centenary Cup for U/12's at Woonona Ocean Park from the 17/4/07 to the 20/4/07.

The cream of State talents selected as representative teams from all corners of the State of NSW will converge on the South Coast, expected to bring together about 50 teams plus hundreds of supporting coaches and parents.

This event is being played every year in the School Easter Holidays with Woonona Ocean Park selected a suitable venue.

Wollongong Wolves

Local representatives in the NSW State League the Wollongong Wolves had a last-seconds shock loss at home to Blacktown City Demons. They had defender Danial Cummins send-off in the seventh minute thus battling on admiringly for the rest of the game with only 10 players.

Twice the Wolves came back from a goal down to equalise, only to be sunk in the 96th minute " six minutes of extra time was added.

It was a heartbreaking loss after a real valiant team effort recognised also by the words of coach John Turner who would not put any blame of the player's.

Great Season Launch

At the Shellharbour Workers Club last Friday night, the Shellharbour Junior Football Club held their 2007 Season Launch.

Their special guest speaker on the night was Craig Foster " former Socceroo, English Professional Premier League player, at one stage also in Italy, now SBS personality, Journalist, Football Analyst.

During his presentation he had the 150 plus audience spellbound for an emotional, passionate and motivation speech.

Another hour was taken up with questions and answers, reluctantly ended eventually. Invited VIP's from Shelll. Workers were President Russell Connell and several Board members. Foster was a hit with the ladies and Junior coaches lining up to have their photos taken. Junior Club registrar Donna King (looking after 515 youngsters) and club secretary Benita Jovanovski were just two to have their picture taken with the former star and now television presenter.
