SLASHING lifeguard services from northern suburbs beaches is just one of the controversial measures in Wollongong City Council's budget saving measures adopted for exhibition on Monday night.
Council will release the draft plan on Tuesday for public comment and residents will have 28 days to voice their opinions.
Over the next five years Council hopes to save $5 million in a range of cut-backs including reducing lifeguard patrols on Scarborough and Coalcliff beaches to one day a week, saving an estimated $40,000.
Another $60,000 would be saved by increasing fees at Russell Vale Golf Course.
Meanwhile swimmers will have an increased access to Thirroul pool with Council agreeing to trial an extended season until June 13.
