AN AMBITIOUS bid to resurrect the Fraternity Bowls Club will continue with the restart of organised social bowls at the Fairy Meadow complex today (Thursday).

Interested players are asked to arrive at the Fraternity Club at 9.30am for a 10am start.

Acting Fraternity Bowls Club secretary Joe Gerards said he was optimistic about the club’s future.

“I’m quite happy with how it is going so far,” Mr Gerards said.

The campaign started with a social bowls day and get-together on Sunday at the club, which attracted nine players and five apologies.

“It’s something to build on; people have commitments this time of year,” Mr Gerards said.

“Everybody was in a good mood; everyone was really optimistic.”

For the record, Norm Rombouts and Gary Craig won Sunday’s social competition.

In further encouraging news for the club, Bill Curran has signed on to the steering committee that is overseeing its bid for renewal.

The Fraternity Bowls Club needs at least 16 financial members to secure reaffiliation with the Royal NSW Bowling Association.

“I would say it’s going to be a slow process but we’ll get there,” Mr Gerards said.

The greens at the Fraternity Club are available for roll-ups every Sunday from 10am.
