WOLLONGONG FC’s pathways program has broght another local into the fold, with reigning Illawarra Football Association player of the year Matthew Bailey linking with the club on Friday.

Bailey was the lynchpin of Bulli’s strong 2007 Illawarra Premier League (IPL) campaign, which netted the Corrimal Leagues Club Knock Out and runner-up in both the IPL championship and grand final.

“I am very happy with the fact I have been given the opportunity for a chance to hopefully show what I can do at the next level,” Bailey said.

“This is a very good standard and I will need to get used to the pace of the game. I encourage any future players in the Illawarra competition if they aspire to go further to give this a go. I am looking forward to a successful season with Wollongong FC.”

Wollongong FC CEO Jock Morlando said the signing was “a clear indication of our commitment to provide a platform for the best local players”.

Bailey is yet another local player that will play for the re-branded club in the 2008 NSW Premier League.

Meanwhile, Wollongong FC completed its preparations for its State Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Illawarra Premier League grand final winners Albion Park White Eagles.

Former White Eagle Osagie Ederado and Daniel Aliffi scored for John Turner’s outfit.
